Still on the subject of standards, I found this arrangement by Art Blakey and his band the Jazz Messengers of Duke Ellington's famous Caravan particularly interesting.

The track is on a 1962 album of the same name, available on YouTube at this link.

The lineup is Art Blakey leading on drums, Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Cedar Walton on piano and Reggie Workman on bass.

The tempo is a fast (up-tempo) swing, with a 6/8 North African mood superimposed on top.

As you can see from the bass part, the introduction comes after Art Blakey's drum solo and is built on a triplet figure (marked A in the part). After the opening fermata it returns to state the theme (the section marked B).

P.S. Sorry for some unclear "errors" in the notation, like the tie used in the triplet, but Finale drives me crazy sometimes.
